Kilkenny Car Crash Victim Named
Gardaí named the 31 year old woman killed in a car crash in Co Kilkenny yesterday as Alena Svobodova with and address at Middleknock, Dublin Road, Co Kilkenny.
Ms Svobodova, a native of the Czech Republic, was fatally injured when her car collided with a truck on the main Kilkenny-to-Waterford road (N9) at Barretstown, Knocktopher at about 6.45am on Tuesday.
The driver of the truck was hospitalised, but his injuries are not believed to be serious. He was taken to St Luke's hospital.
A total of 266 people have died on the State's roads to date this year in 242 crashes. Of those, 106 - or nearly 40% - of those killed were drivers.
There were 60 pedestrians killed, 57 passengers, 13 cyclists, 28 motorcyclists and two pillion passengers, according to Gardaí figures.

A man has died in a road collision in Co Louth. The single-vehicle crash occurred at Rassan on the Dundalk to Castleblaney Road at around 7am today, 05 September. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The road has been closed and diversions have been put in place. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

A man has died when his car collided with a van on the Rathbeale road in Swords, Dublin, around 02.30am on Wednesday morning. The man in his 40s was a passenger in the van. He died at the scene. The driver of the van and a second passenger are being treated in hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A man has died in a road crash in Waterford. The collision, between a truck and a car, happened on the N25 just after Kilmacthomas at around 7.50am on Tuesday, 10 May. The man, aged in his late 20's, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck did not require medical attention.
