Cavan General Postpones Operations

Cavan General Hospital has postponed a number of operations because of staff shortages.

Due to an ongoing recruitment freeze, a consultant anaesthetist who went on holiday was not replaced by a locum. Consequently a number of operations at the hospital were cancelled.

Around five to eight operations a day have had to be postponed.

It is reported that no major operations have been postponed and that only minor surgical cases have been affected.

Cavan General had an overspend of around €4 million in the first six months of the year.
