Gardaí Gave No Warning, Inquest Hears

An armed robber serving a ten-year sentence for his role in the Lusk post office robbery has claimed he did not hear Gardaí give a warning before opening fire.

Gavin Farrelly was a witness today at Dublin City Coroner's Court where the inquest is being held.

Eric Hopkins and Colm Griffin were part of a failed raid on a post office in Lusk on 26 May 2005, when they were killed.

At the inquest yesterday, witnesses described how Gardaí had shouted a warning at one of the men, before he turned around and pointed his gun at the armed officers.

He and a second raider were then shot dead by the Gardaí.

It is anticipated the inquest will last four days, amid tight security raised by fears for the safety of the Gardaí.
