Boil Water Notice In Place For Tallow Public Water Supply After Turbidity Spike
Uisce Éireann has introduced a precautionary Boil Water Notice on the Tallow Public Water Supply after increased turbidity (cloudiness) interfered with the treatment process at the local plant. The measure has been implemented to protect public health and will remain in effect until further updates are provided here or via the Supply and Service Updates section.
The notice applies to approximately 1,100 consumers served by the Tallow Public Water Supply, including those in Tallow and Tallow Hill. A map of the impacted area is provided.
Uisce Éireann is working with the HSE to verify that the water is safe to drink before lifting the notice. The utility acknowledged the disruption and said teams are working to restore normal supply as quickly and safely as possible.
Maura Phelan, Uisce Éireann, said: "We know how important a safe and reliable water supply is to everyday life, and we understand how difficult this latest disruption will be for households, businesses and the wider community.
"Our teams are working to resolve the issue and lift the notice as quickly and safely as possible. We sincerely thank everyone in the community for their patience and cooperation"." Uisce Éireann says its drinking water standards are among the strictest in Europe and include significant safety margins. Where its testing and monitoring programme identifies a potential risk to water quality, the HSE is consulted and precautionary notices may be issued to protect public health.
What you need to know: Water is safe to consume once it has been brought to a boil and allowed to cool.
Water must be boiled before:
• Drinking
• Preparing drinks made with water
• Preparing salads or other foods that will not be cooked before eating
• Brushing teeth
• Making ice
Guidance for customers:
• Bring water to a vigorous rolling boil and allow it to cool before use.
• Use boiled and cooled water when washing food that will not be cooked, such as salads.
• Water can continue to be used for washing, bathing and flushing toilets, but should not be used for brushing teeth or gargling.
• Domestic water filters will not make the water safe to drink.
• Take extra care when bathing children to ensure they do not swallow the water.
• Handle boiled water carefully to avoid burns and scalds.
Customers can stay informed via the supply and service section of the Uisce Éireann website, the live feed on X @IWCare, or by signing up for real-time text updates. The customer care team is available 24/7 on 1800 278 278.
