Dublin D Sculpture Unveiled On Grafton Street

Dublin's four local authorities have unveiled a bold new public artwork on Grafton Street, designed to embody the identity and character of the wider Dublin region at one of its most recognisable city-centre locations.

Named The Dublin D, the contemporary piece draws on the city's distinctive brand mark to create a fresh visual focal point in the capital. It celebrates the people, places and attributes that make Dublin a dynamic, creative and welcoming region in which to live, work, invest, study and visit.

The sculpture conveys Dublin's story through a series of carefully considered design cues. Each element reflects a facet of the county and its communities, from the warmth of light and welcome, and the greenery of its landscapes, to the craftsmanship of wood, the movement of water, the rhythm of music and the diversity of its people.

Together, these details form a modern portrait of a place that is open, connected and shaped by both its residents and its natural surroundings.

The launch marks the next phase in the evolution of the Dublin brand, which is promoted via the award-winning Dublin.ie platform, across social media and through targeted international campaigns.

The Dublin brand is a collaborative effort by Dublin City Council, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Fingal County Council and South Dublin County Council to promote the region internationally and highlight its strengths across business, education, tourism, investment and culture.

Speaking at the unveiling, Richard Shakespeare, Chief Executive of Dublin City Council, said: "This sculpture is a vibrant expression of what makes Dublin such a distinctive place. It captures the creativity, diversity, energy and sense of community that define our region, while giving people a new and very visible way to connect with the Dublin brand. Dublin has a strong international reputation, and this sculpture gives us an opportunity to celebrate that identity right here in the heart of the city. I hope it becomes a landmark that residents and visitors enjoy, engage with and make their own."

Positioned at the top of Grafton Street, The Dublin D invites people to experience the brand in a tangible, accessible way, while offering a new backdrop for photographs, social media and city experiences.

The brand was developed to provide a clear and unified international identity for the region, presenting Dublin as a dynamic European capital where world-class education, cultural vibrancy, innovation and enterprise come together.
