Dublin City Council is celebrating Positive Ageing Week 2026 with a diverse schedule of activities across the city that champions intergenerational connections and community spirit under this year's theme, Connecting Generations.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daryl Barron, said, "Positive Ageing Week celebrates the invaluable contribution older people make to life in Dublin every day. Dublin City Council is proud to support a programme that brings people together and strengthens community connections across the city. This year's theme, 'Connecting Generations', highlights how stronger relationships between people of all ages help create more inclusive and welcoming communities. I encourage everyone to get involved in the events taking place across Dublin and celebrate the power of community."

Events span health, culture and social engagement, with options including pickleball, chair aerobics, afternoon tea dances, community information days, arts and crafts workshops, Tai Chi, music events and wellbeing activities. Each is designed to encourage participation, creativity, lifelong learning and connection between generations. Highlights across Dublin include Reminiscing in Rathmines; a Bohemian Strings concert in Ballymun showcasing favourite songs from past decades; and Grow, Prepare & Share Food in the Liberties. These gatherings aim to help older residents meet new people, share experiences and deepen neighbourhood ties.

A flagship event, the South Central Area Positive Ageing Week Community Information Day, takes place at St Andrew's Community Centre, Rialto, on Wednesday, 30 September. It will bring together local services, supports and community organisations, with information on areas such as budget management, fire safety and crime prevention, while helping attendees connect with local groups.

The programme has been developed by local communities and Dublin City Council staff working in partnership with volunteers and community organisations. Dublin City Council extends its thanks to the many community groups, volunteers and partner organisations whose collaboration has made the programme possible this year.
