UUisce Éireann has submitted a planning application to upgrade the Limerick (Bunlicky) Wastewater Treatment Plant and Regional Bioresource Centre, the utility’s largest wastewater investment in the Mid‑West.

The scheme is intended to meet rising demand from new homes and businesses while strengthening environmental protection.

The upgrade aims to ensure Limerick has the essential services needed to continue growing. It is expected to improve water quality in the Shannon Estuary, safeguard conservation habitats and better protect amenities used by communities, anglers, boat users and visitors. The project is one of several nationally significant schemes advanced by Uisce Éireann that have been selected for accelerated delivery, with Government designation as critical infrastructure under the Critical Infrastructure Act 2026.

The planning application follows early engagement, including a non‑statutory public consultation and briefings with elected representatives and local stakeholders, with feedback used to refine the design now submitted for approval.
