The high-intensity operation was a targeted collaboration between Divisional Crime Units, supported by Community Engagement Areas across the region, aimed at achieving the objectives of Operation Meacán.

Launched in December 2023 in the Dublin Metropolitan Region, Operation Meacán targets the criminal use of electric motorbikes, e-scooters and e-bikes for activities including drug distribution, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences.

Alongside enforcement, Gardaí engaged with the public on current rules for motorcycles, e-bikes and e-scooters, as well as on new regulations due to come into force this month.
