Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, met representatives from Kildare County Council, Dublin City Council, South Dublin County Council and Fingal County Council on 30 July to assess progress on implementing the Liffey Valley Park Strategy, which was adopted by the four local authorities.

The Strategy sets out a vision for a 'necklace' of amenities along predominantly public lands by the River Liffey, creating recreational opportunities, protecting biodiversity and the amenity of the river corridor, promoting healthy, active lifestyles, and strengthening the heritage, economic and tourism potential of the Liffey Valley for local communities and visitors.

At the meeting, the councils outlined substantial progress achieved in their respective areas since the Strategy was published in 2006 and discussed how this momentum can be built upon in the future. Speaking after the meeting, Minister Moran commented: "I was very pleased to reconvene this important conversation about the Liffey Valley amenity. The Office of Public Works strongly supports the objectives of the 2006 Strategy and believes that they continue to be relevant today. Substantial progress on the Strategy objectives has been achieved, including by the OPW, with the recent acquisition of lands at Castletown and Donaghcumper and the forthcoming construction of a new commemorative bridge at the Irish National War Memorial Gardens being just two examples.

"I look forward to continued collaboration with Kildare County Council, Dublin City Council, South Dublin County Council and Fingal County Council as they deliver further on the Strategy within their areas, working together to deliver these important benefits into the future."

A further meeting with the local authorities is planned for early 2027.
