Eight Appears in Court Following Major Trans-National Organised Crime Operation

As part of Operation Tara, an ongoing investigation targeting organised crime, eight individuals are appearing before various court sittings across Ireland today following a series of coordinated arrests.

Last night, investigating Gardaí from the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) arrested three women, aged in their 30s and 40s, and one man, aged in his 30s, across Cork, Laois, and Carlow. All four have been formally charged in connection with an ongoing investigation into an organised crime group (OCG). They are scheduled to appear before court sittings at Carlow District Court, Tullamore District Court, and Fermoy District Court this morning.

In tandem with these proceedings, four additional men—three aged in their 40s and one in his 30s—will also appear before judges this morning. Their hearings are scheduled at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin, Thurles District Court, and Carlow District Court on charges linked to the same network.

According to Gardaí, the targeted OCG possesses a trans-national element, maintaining active links with criminal entities operating abroad.

The latest phase of the operation follows a succession of previous arrests executed under the same investigation between February 2026 and April 2026. The intelligence-led investigation by the GNDOCB has been active since November 2024, focusing heavily on disrupting the core activities of the criminal network, dismantling its operational capacity, and prosecuting its members within this jurisdiction.
