Gardaí Launch Investigation Following Death Of Man In County Leitrim
Gardaí attached to the Sligo Leitrim Crime Functional Area have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident in County Leitrim on Thursday 11 June 2026.
Shortly after 9pm, Gardaí responded to reports of an incident at a residential property in Arderry, where a man in his 40s was found unresponsive. He received medical treatment at the scene from emergency services personnel but was pronounced deceased a short time later. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene. He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in County Leitrim.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the case, and both the local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been formally notified.
The body of the deceased remains at the property, which has been preserved for a detailed technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
