€333,781 Awarded To 18 Longford Community Climate Projects

The Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O'Brien, has confirmed €333,781 for 18 community-led projects in County Longford under Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme.

The allocation is part of the Government's continued investment in community climate action through the Climate Action Fund, with almost €27 million (over €26.9 million) being made available to Local Authorities to help communities build low-carbon, sustainable futures.

Announcing the awards, Minister O'Brien said: "Communities across Ireland are leading the way in climate action, delivering practical projects that reduce emissions, strengthen local resilience and improve quality of life.

"This programme empowers communities to take meaningful local action on climate change, while also contributing to our national climate and energy goals. The scale of interest and quality of applications received demonstrates the commitment of communities nationwide to building a cleaner, more sustainable future."

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh, said: "This funding is welcome news for communities right across County Longford. These projects show what can be achieved when local groups take practical steps to protect the environment while strengthening their own areas. I commend the volunteers and organisations involved for their commitment and hard work."

Chief Executive of Longford County Council, Paddy Mahon, said: "The Community Climate Action Programme supports communities to turn good ideas into real action. Longford County Council is pleased to support these projects through our Community Climate Action Officers, helping groups to reduce emissions, cut waste and improve local facilities in a sustainable way."

The programme is delivered through Local Authorities' Community Climate Action Officers (CCAOs), who offer guidance, support and hands-on assistance to groups seeking to become lower-carbon and more sustainable.
