Arrests Made In Illegal Immigration And Work Permits Investigation

Gardaí from the National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) have arrested 10 people as part of an ongoing operation targeting illegal immigration and work permits.

A number of search operations have been carried by GNIB officers, working alongside the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) and the Department of Social Protection.

According to reports, a search was conducted of an Asian food products supplier alongside a number of offices at a business park in west Dublin.

A meat processing plant in county Meath was also searched.

Gardaí said that their investigation was ongoing.

Six Due In Court Over Cannabis Find
A total of six men are to appear court this Thursday morning over the seizure of €200,000 worth of cannabis. The men are to appear at Sligo District Court charged with drugs and immigration offences at 10.30 a.m. A total of eight people were arrested in connection with the seizure on Tuesday.

Prison Officers To Stage Work Stoppages
Strike action by prison officers at two of the country's largest prisons is to be held in a dispute over staffing levels. A one-hour work stoppage will be held today at Cloverhill Prison, followed by two one-hour work stoppages at Mountjoy Prison next week. It is understood that inmates will be put on lockdown during the work stoppages.

Men Arrested Over Contraband Cigarettes
Revenue Customs Service have arrested two polish men following the seizure of contraband tobacco. In a planned search of a house in Tralee, Co Kerry, officers recoverd 46kgs of 'Pall Mall' and 'Turner' roll-your-own tobacco. The tobacco is estimated to be worth €18,300, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of €14,800.
