Dublin City Council To Boycott 'Obscene' Commemoration Event
Dublin City Council will boycott the government's planned commemoration of the Royal Irish Constabulary and Dublin Metropolitan Police.
Councillors backed a motion which described the event, planned to be held in Dublin Castle on 17 January, as "obscene".
It is understood that the decision was taken as the forces being commemorated "identified those to be executed after the 1916 Rising".
According to reports, the council said that "only a subservient government suffering from a post-colonial state of mind and ashamed of our revolutionary history would encourage this disgraceful event".
The motion was passed by 38 votes to 10.
