Serious Assault In Cork City Leaves Man Critical

A man is in critical condition following an assault in Cork city on Thursday night, 12 September.

The individual is fighting for his life after he was targeted on St Patrick's Street shortly after 9pm. After being taken to Cork University Hospital in serious condition, his state deteriorated overnight.

It is understood the victim was engaging with homeless services at the time of the assault. A Garda investigation is ongoing and anyone with information, or who was in the area between 8pm and 9.15am, is urged to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021-452 2000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

Separately, a man in his late teens was assaulted on the Grand Parade in the early hours of Friday morning, 13 September.

A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene. Garda have appealed for anyone with information to contact Anglesea Street Station.

Missing Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A missing 24-year-old man has been found "safe and well". Alex Sherwin had been reported missing on Sunday, with garda issuing a public appeal for assistance. No information on Mr Sherwin's whereabouts have been released, but garda said the investigation had now ended. They thanked the public for their help.

Second Man Arrested Over Mikolaj Wilk Murder
Gardaí have arrested a second man in connection with the murder of Mikolaj Wilk in Cork last year. The 35-year-old, who was originally from Poland, was attacked by a gang at his home in Maglin on 10 June. It comes after another man was arrested in Cork yesterday morning and taken to Togher Garda Station for questioning.

Sixth Man Arrested Over Murder Of Aidan O'Driscoll
A sixth man has been arrested in connection with the murder of dissident republican Aidan O'Driscoll. The suspect was arrested in Cork on Sunday, 09 April. He is being questioned at Mayfield Garda Station. Mr O'Driscoll was shot dead in Blackpool, Cork, on 07 December 2016.

Garda Injured In Cork
A garda has been injured while on duty in Cork on Monday night. The sergeant has been treated in hospital but has been discharged. He was bringing a patient, aged in his 20s, to the Mercy University Hospital just after 6pm. The garda is based at Gurranabraher Garda Station.
