Revenue Seize Drugs & Puppy

Revenue officers have seized over €140,000 of cannabis in two separate operations this week, and a puppy during another search at Dublin Port.

1.15kg of herbal cannabis worth an estimated €23,000 was detected at Dublin Port on Tuesday 04 June when officers stopped a foot passenger who was travelling from Holyhead. The drugs were found with the assistance of Revenue detector dog Robbie and a man was arrested. Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

A separate routine operation at Dublin Port on Tuesday saw officers stop and question a man in his fifties who was travelling to the UK. The man was carrying a 9 month old pit bull terrier cross breed puppy without a pet passport, as required under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013.

The puppy was seized and transferred to the care of the DSPCA, where it will receive veterinary attention. A follow up investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, revenue officers at Portlaoise Mail Centre seized 6kg of herbal cannabis on Monday 03 June.

The drugs, discovered in a concealed carved wooden ornament originating from Thailand and declared as a 'wedding present', are worth an estimated €120,000. They were destined for an address in Dublin and enquiries are ongoing.

These drug seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting smuggling. Anyone with information about smuggling is urged to contact the Confidential Freephone number 1800 295 295.
