Orange Warning As Storm Gareth Sweeps The Nation

Storm Gareth is to bring disruptive weather to parts of Ireland over the next few days, with heavy wind and rain forecast.

A status Orange warning for counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will come into effect at midday and last until 9am tomorrow, Wednesday 13 March.

Meanwhile, a status yellow warning will be in place for the rest of the country.

Winds are expected to reach speeds of 65 to 75km/h, with severe gusts of up to 130 km/h possible.

Status Yellow Wind Warning Issued
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo and Clare. West to southwest winds of mean speeds 45 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/h are expected in western coastal counties throughout Friday and in the northwest during Friday afternoon and evening.

Wind Farm Academy To Boost Donegal
A National Wind Energy Academy is being established at Letterkenny Institute of Technology as part of a €500,000 initiative being backed by the Donegal County Development Board. The first phase will see the development of a wind turbine maintenance programme which will be delivered in conjunction with BZEE, a German centre for renewable energy.

Weather Warning Issued For Ireland
Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for the region. The wind warning was issued on Sunday night (8 March) and is expected to remain in place until at least midnight on Monday. The warning if for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. The forecaster said: "Southerly winds of mean speed 60-65km/h.

Status Orange Warning For Wind And Snow
A status orange wind and snow warning has been issued by Met Éireann from 13:00 today (Thursday). The forecaster said that winds of up to 75 km/h are expected in coastal areas and this could increase up to 110 km/h later into the evening. The worst wind is expected in counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo and Clare.
