Young Man Dies After Sea Rescue Off Donegal Coast

A young man has died after he was recovered from the sea off the Donegal coast.

The man, aged in his mid-20's, was found in the Ballyshannon Estuary on Sunday and rushed to Sligo University Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

The Malin Head Coastguard station co-ordinated the rescue, along with the emergency services, after a passer-by spotted the man in the water.

Gardaí, Bundoran Lifeboat crew and the Rescue 118 helicopter also took part in the search during challenging winds and heavy rain.

The casualty was found in the water after an intense operation.

His name has not yet been revealed.

Lough Erne Tragedy As Teen Dies
There has been a second water-based tragedy in the North this weekend with police divers recovering the body of a man from Lough Erne in County Fermanagh in the early hours of Monday morning. The recovery followed reports that a 19-year-old had gone missing while swimming with friends near Castlearchdale Caravan Park.

Parents To Face Major Fines For Buying Scramblers For Underage Children
Fianna Fáil have proposed a new Bill that could see parents who buy scramblers for underage children facing a fine of up to €5,000. The new Bill would also give Garda the power to seize and destroy scramblers and quad bikes used in anti-social manner. Twenty seven children and 12 adults died in scrambler related incidents between 2014 and 2017.

Rescue Team Recover Body Of Lost Hiker
A mountain rescue team has recovered the body of the hiker who had gone missing on a Connemara mountain. The 59-year-old hiker's body could not be recovered for almost 24 hours because of the inaccessibility of the location where he had fallen at the weekend.
