Dublin Alert Ends After Pipe-Bomb Explodes

Authorities have given the all-clear after a pipe bomb exploded in north Dublin.

Gardaí alerted Army Bomb Disposal experts who rushed to the scene in Coolock at around 6.15pm on Sunday 03 February.

The area was sealed off for public safety while the squad assessed the blast.

It was declared safe at around 8pm.

Gardaí and the defence forces have advised members of the public that if they encounter suspicious items or hazardous substances they should remain safe and inform gardaí immediately.

Dissident Republicans Targeted In Louth Searches

A gardaí search operation in the village of Omeath, County Louth, has targeted the activities of dissident republican groups.

Ammunition and other items were found during searches on the Cooley Peninsula.

An operation in a wooded area uncovered 1,000 rounds of ammunition and what gardaí believed to be a mortar tube.

The searches are part of an investigation into republican activity and involved officers from the special detective and emergency response units assisted by gardaí from the Louth division.

No arrests have been made in the probe.

Taoiseach Set For Brexit Talks In Brussels

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will travel to Brussels for a series of Brexit-related meetings on Wednesday 06 February.

It follows a vote in the UK Parliament last week to seek changes to the proposed withdrawal deal and an alternative backstop arrangement for the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Mr Varadkar will meet Jean Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission, to discuss preparations for the possibility of a no-deal.

Planning for such an eventuality is intensifying within Brussels and across member states, according to the Irish Government.

The Taoiseach will also meet European Council President Donald Tusk to discuss the latest developments in London.

Man Arrested In Michael Devoy Murder Investigation
Gardaí investigating the murder of Michael Devoy in January this year have arrested a man in his early 20s. A routine garda patrol in the Bohernabreena area of Tallaght, found the body of Mr Devoy on 18 January. He had been shot dead. Garda have confirmed they have arrested a man in his early 20s in connection with the murder.

Ten Teenagers Arrested Over Robberies And Assaults
Gardaí investigating a number of robberies and assaults in Dublin have arrested ten teenagers, aged 14 to 19. A series of raids were carried out in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Dublin and Louth by officers investigating robberies and assaults carried out in the Dublin area over the summer.

Cannabis Found In Wooded Area In Co Cavan
Cannabis worth an estimated €100,000 has been uncovered in a wooded area in Co Cavan. Gardaí confirmed they made the discovery on Tuesday at Drumgill. No one has been arrested in connection with the find, gardaí have said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
