Pope To Visit Knock In August

Pope Francis is to visit Knock in Co Mayo when he visits Ireland in August.

The announcement was made by the Vatican who outlined his itinerary on 25 and 26 August.

The Pope is also attending the Catholic World Meeting of Families in Dublin's Croke Park and will celebrate the closing mass of the gathering at the capital's Phoenix Park.

He will be welcomed by President Michael D Higgins on his arrival.

Ireland has been selected as the destination for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, paving the way for a Papal visit next year. Although no official confirmation has emerged, The Pope is expected to be the chief celebrant at the Congress, which will likely involve an open air Mass in Dublin's Croke Park in June, 2012.

Renewed Appeal Over Phoenix Park Death
Exactly one year on from the discovery of a body in Phoenix Park, Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information. The body of Eugenia Bratis, a Romanian National, was discovered by two members of the public who were walking in a wooded area just off Military Road at 3.30pm on the 5th August 2009.
