Pope To Visit Knock In August

Pope Francis is to visit Knock in Co Mayo when he visits Ireland in August.

The announcement was made by the Vatican who outlined his itinerary on 25 and 26 August.

The Pope is also attending the Catholic World Meeting of Families in Dublin's Croke Park and will celebrate the closing mass of the gathering at the capital's Phoenix Park.

He will be welcomed by President Michael D Higgins on his arrival.

Papal Visit Expected In 2012
Ireland has been selected as the destination for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, paving the way for a Papal visit next year. Although no official confirmation has emerged, The Pope is expected to be the chief celebrant at the Congress, which will likely involve an open air Mass in Dublin's Croke Park in June, 2012.

Exactly one year on from the discovery of a body in Phoenix Park, Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information. The body of Eugenia Bratis, a Romanian National, was discovered by two members of the public who were walking in a wooded area just off Military Road at 3.30pm on the 5th August 2009.

Gardaí Suspect Drugs Link In Fatal Dublin Shooting
A murder investigation has been launched following a gun attack that left one man dead and another seriously wounded in Swords last night, Thursday 17 January. The shooting occurred as the two men in their 20's left the fitness facility Gym Plus and made their way to the car park. They were both struck several times.

Free GP Care For Children Under 6 Begins
Free GP Care for children under the age of 6 starts today, 01 July. All children who are registered under the Scheme can attend their GP without charge. Over 79,000 children have been registered to avail of this new service and over 2,030 GPs have signed up to provide services as part of the scheme.

Heroin Worth An Estimated €1.5m Seized
Heroin worth an estimated €1.5 million was seized during a vehicle stop on the Naas Road, close to Rathcoole. Officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau of An Garda Síochána and the Revenue Commissioners Customs Service stopped two cars on Wednesday as part of an intelligence-led operation.

Gardaí Appeal For Witnesses To Co Kildare Road Accident
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a single vehicle road accident in Clane, Co Kildare, at about 02:30 on Thursday morning. It is understood that four men and a juvenile was in a car that left the road, overturned and landed in a ditch on the R407, Clane to Kilcock Road, at Mainham.

Witnesses Sought Following Fatal Road Accident In Co Louth
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road accident in Collon, Co Louth. The single vehicle road accident happened at about 1am on Tuesday morning close to Brannigan's Cross on the Collon to Tinure Road. A 32-year-old man, the sole occupant of the car, suffered serious injuries when his car left the road and struck a ditch.

Two men have been arrested in connection with drugs seized during raids in the Shankill/Ballybrack area. Gardaí launched the raids on Friday, 31 July as part of an operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Gardai Appeal To Trace Missing Seamus Higgins
Gardai in Ennis are seeking the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 22-year-old Seamus Higgins who has been missing since the 10th August 2013. Seamus was last seen in the area of the Dun na Hinse housing estate. Seamus was last seen wearing jeans, a grey jumper with a grey Hoodie underneath, and white and navy runners.

Man Arrested In Relation To The Murder Of Darren Falsey
A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Darren Falsey, 36, in Carrigaline, Co Cork on 3rd August last year. The man, in his late 20s, is being detained at Togher Garda station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007. Mr Falsey was shot at the front door of his home at Ashbourne Court on Ferney Road.

One Girl Still Missing
Gardaí who were appealing for help in finding two teenage girls who have separately gone missing over the past fortnight have revealed that one of the teens has now been located. Niamh O'Malley - who was missing since 5.00pm on Wednesday 10 September, after she had left school for the day - is now safe.

Bishop Asks Priests For €1K Towards Compensation
The Bishop of Ferns has gone to the parish priests, asking them to contribute €1,000 each to pay the outstanding bill for abuse compensation. Bishop of Ferns Dr Denis Brennan made the request in a letter to members of the clergy writing that "the consensus at the Deanery meetings was that €1,000 per priest per year would meet our present needs".
