Dedicated Garda Unit To Investigate Attacks On Taxi Drivers
Gardaí have announced a dedicated unit to tackle an increase in violent robberies against taxi drivers.
According to reports, drivers in Tyrellstown, Ongar and Clones have been attacked, with eight reports made in the last four weeks.
It is understood that one line of inquiry is that gangs of teenagers are behind the attacks.
Anyone with any information about the incidents are asked to contact garda.

A group representing Ireland's private taxi drivers is to stage a protest in Dublin today, it has been revealed. An Garda Siochana said they understood a protest would take place by the group who are calling themselves “The Irish Taxi Council” this afternoon. According to Irishtaxi.

Call For CCTV In Taxis
Irish taxis should soon be fitted with CCTV, a Labour Party spokesman has said. Transport spokesman Tommy Broughan said on Wednesday that the CCTV cameras should be installed in taxis to protect drivers. The proposals will undergo a full consultation process being carried out by the Taxi Regulator on the future of the industry.

Taxi Drivers In Dublin City Protest
Taxi drivers will be taking to the streets again in another high profile protest in Dublin city centre this afternoon. It is the fifth protest by taxi drivers this year alone, and the protest has been scheduled for today at noon, with drivers meeting at various assembly points before a rally outside Government buildings.

Taxi Men Stop Work In Protest
Taxi drivers in Dublin stopped work on Thursday morning in protest at a decision to raise the cost of the taxi licence fee. The four main taxi drivers unions have all advised their members not to work between the hours of 7am and 11am.
