Vernon Mount House Fire Being Treated As Suspicious

Garda investigating a fire at Vernon Mount House in Cork are treating the blaze as suspicious.

Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at the historic building at about 10.00pm on Sunday night. Eight fire brigade units spent almost 10 hours tackling the blaze at the house.

It is understood that garda technical experts will begin an examination of the scene once safety experts have cleared the site.

Garda have said that the report of the technical examination will determine the course of their investigation, but that they do believe the cause of the fire is suspicious.

Woman Charged Over Suspicious House Fire
A woman has been charged in relation to a suspicious house fire in Co Louth last year. Following an investigation into the blaze, which occurred at Cork Street in Drogheda on 16 August last year, gardaí confirmed a 27-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the incident. A woman, aged 73, was seriously injured in the fire in 2014.

Publican's Body Found
The body of a public house owner in Co Offaly has been discovered in suspicious circumstances. Officers are investigating after the discovery of the man who was in his 60s at 7.30am on Wednesday. The body was discovered by a member of the man's family, at a public house owned by the dead man in Daingean, Co.Offaly.

Three Die In Separate House Fires
Two men and a woman have died in three separate house fires in Limerick and Kerry. In the latest incident, a man in his 60s died following a house fire in Tralee in Co Kerry. The fire broke out in the terraced house in Connolly Park at about 9.30pm yesterday. Gardaí were called to the scene at around 9.

Witnesses Sought To Fatal House Fire In Carrickmacross
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a fatal house fire in Carrickmacross on Monday 21 March. Emergency services were called to a property at St. Macartans Villas at about 01:30. A man, aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem was carried out.

Investigation Follows Dublin Blazes
Gardaí have launched an investigation following a series of fires in Dublin yesterday evening. The suspicious blazes led Dublin Fire Brigade to attend three separate incidents in the Darndale area in the northside of the city within just over an hour. The first fire began at three unoccupied houses in the Buttercup Park estate at about 9.10pm.
