Witnesses Sought To Fatal House Fire In Carrickmacross

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a fatal house fire in Carrickmacross on Monday 21 March.

Emergency services were called to a property at St. Macartans Villas at about 01:30.

A man, aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem was carried out. The results have been passed to the investigation team.

The scene was examined by the Cavan/Monaghan Divisional Scene of Crime Unit and The Garda Technical Bureau. The cause of the fire has yet to be established.

Gardaí have asked for witnesses who may have been in the area between 19:00 on Sunday 20 March and 02:00 on Monday 21 March to contact them at Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042 9690190, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Arrest As Guns Seized In Co Monaghan
Gardaí have arrested one man and seized four firearms in Co Monaghan. The Roads Policing Unit discovered the guns when a vehicle was stopped during speed checks on the N2. A roadside drugs test was carried out on the driver before a follow-up search of the car uncovered four loaded pistols and ammunition.

Three More Questioned Over Quinn Murder
Three men are being questioned by the PSNI about the brutal gang-murder of Co Armagh man Paul Quinn after three others were arrested by gardaí earlier. The three men arrested by the PSNI are from the Crossmaglen and Cullyhanna areas and while two are aged in their 50s, one is in his 20s.
