Father And Son Rescued From Sea After Being Washed Off Kayak

A father and son were rescued from the sea off Tracht after they were washed overboard from their kayak.

Beach lifeguards Mark Buckley and Niall Hanley contacted the Coast Guard at about 3pm on Thursday after becoming concerned for the father and son, who had set off from Tracht beach earlier that afternoon.

A search operation was launched by Valentia Coast Guard, with assistance from Galway Bay RNLI, R115 the Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter, and Doolin Coast Guard unit.

R115 found the father and son within an hour of the search being launched and directed the Galway Bay lifeboat to their location.

Coast Guard Watch officers on duty in Valentia were highly complementary of the two local Lifeguards highlighting their vigilance, timeliness of their report and for piecing together information on the casualties.
