Ministers Congratulate Ciara Megeean On European Bronze Medal

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross and the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Patrick O'Donovan have congratulated Ciara Mageean on winning a bronze medal in the 1500m final at the European Championships in Amsterdam.

Speaking after the event Minster Ross said: "Ciara ran a magnificent race and I am delighted she got her rewards with a bronze medal. Ciara was very focused today, and all week, it is a wonderful achievement to be bringing home a medal from the European Championships."

Minister O'Donovan added: "I am delighted for Ciara, she ran a physical and gruelling race, but she stuck at it, and we are very proud of her performance, as I am sure the whole team around her are, bringing home a medal from a major championships is always tough but it is also very special. I also want to pass on my best wishes to the whole team as I know there was a lot of PBs achieved and some great performances overall."

Sutherland Inquest Hears From Manager Frank Maloney
The inquest into the death of boxer Darren Sutherland has been hearing from boxing manager Frank Maloney. Coroner Roy Palmer had earlier today commented that no one was on trial in the Coroner’s Court after comments made by Maloney on his Twitter account calling the inquest a “witch hunt”.

Tragic Boxer Buried
The funeral of Irish Olympic boxer Darren Sutherland is to take place today. Darren was found by his manager Frank Maloney, who has described the death as a "tragedy for Ireland and the world of boxing''. Speaking last week, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said the death in Bromley, south London, was not being treated as suspicious.

Dubliner Faces Brit In Olympic Medal Bout
Boxing Dubliner Ken Egan will be facing a British fighter in a medal decider in Beijing following his convincing win on Tuesday. Irish boxing team captain, Kenny Egan, gave the big-hitting veteran Washington Silva a lesson in Olympic boxing, guaranteeing the Neilstown southpaw at least a bronze medal as he awaits his fight for silver on Friday.

Man Released Without Charge In Ciara Breen Investigation
A man arrested on Tuesday in connection with the disappearance of Ciara Breen has been released without charge. Ms Breen was reported missing on 13 February, 1997. She was 17-year-old at the time of her disappearance. The man, understood to be aged in his 50s, was released on Wednesday morning, without charge.

Gardaí Issue Fresh Appeal Over Ciara Breen Disappearance
A fresh appeal for information on the 1997 disappearance of Ciara Breen has been issued after two new witnesses came forward in recent weeks. The 17-year-old was last seen on 13 February, 1997, when she left her Dundalk home at Bachelors Walk in the early hours of the morning.
