SIPTU Members At Hoyer Vote For Strike Action
SIPTU members at fuel transportation company, Hoyer Ireland, have served notice of industrial action, up to and including strike action.
The action has been taken in an ongoing dispute over redundancy entitlements.
SIPTU Sector Organiser, Teresa Hannick, said: "These workers are facing the loss of their jobs and receiving less than half the established rate of redundancy pay at the company.
"The problems began for these workers in December last year when Topaz Energy took over Esso. Hoyer had held the contract for supplying Esso but in February it was announced that this was not being renewed."
She added: "Initially the company offered half the established redundancy payment for the 17 workers who face losing their jobs. However, in recent days this offer has been reduced with the company stating that this was because of the cost of sending legal letters to the workers and flying management from England to have discussions with them.
"The company has also asked workers to sign a wavier protecting it from any future legal action and is refusing to attend the Workplace Relations Commission."
Workers at Hoyer Ireland are due to be made redundant on Saturday, 30 April. Industrial action at the company is scheduled to start on Thursday, 21 April.

Patients across Ireland could face massive disruption when almost 30,000 health workers begin industrial action. The Impact Trade Union said the action is in response to the HSE's recruitment restrictions on staff and services, which has resulted in 2,700 vital jobs not being filled.

Translink Workers Reject Pay Offer
Translink NI workers have rejected a pay offer from the public transport company. Unite, GMB and SIPTU confirmed that their members has "decisively voted to reject as inadequate" a pay offer made by Translink management. Workers were offered a 5% pay increase and a non-consolidated one-off payment of £1,500 for the 2023-2024 financial year.
