Transdev Must Not Be Allowed To Strong Arm Workers - SF

Luas operator Transdev must not be allowed to strong arm its workers, Sinn Féin's David Cullinane has said.

The Waterford TD said: "It is simply unacceptable that a company would strong arm its workers for engaging in industrial action in such a manner.

"The placing of workers on protective notice, telling them that they now work on a day-to-day basis and docking pay, belongs to the strikebreaking tactics of a century past and are not the actions of a company that seeks to resolve this manner in anything less than an aggressive suppression of workers' rights.

"We can see how seriously the Acting Ministers take their duties as government formation talks progress. We are seeing industrial action from Tesco workers, Luas drivers, emergency call workers, ambulance staff to name but a few.

"None of the respective Ministers are to be seen. Pascal Donohoe has washed his hands of the entire issue and now he faces a complete shutdown of the Luas network on his watch. He owes the workers and the thousands of commuters who rely upon the Luas a better example as a Minister than that."
