SIPTU 'Dismayed' At Transdev CEO Failure To Meet With Workers
SIPTU, the union representing Luas drives, has said that it is "dismayed" at the failure of the Transdev CEO to meet with workers during his visit to Ireland.
SIPTU Sector Organiser, Willie Noone, said: "It is deeply disappointing and inexplicable that the CEO of Transdev, UK and Ireland would visit Dublin and not meet with Luas workers. He obviously does not view the Luas workers or their representatives as being key stakeholders worthy of meeting. At such a meeting he would have been informed why the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) proposals in relation to the Luas dispute were rejected overwhelmingly by workers in a recent ballot."
SIPTU Organiser, John Murphy, added: "It is ironic that the CEO of Transdev has now called for local discussions between management and the workers when the company's previous position was that all talks must take place under the auspices of the WRC. The implied threat in the CEO's letter to staff that there will be cutbacks at the company if the industrial action continues does not assist in bringing this dispute to a conclusion and we ask him to withdraw it.
"SIPTU representatives remain available to engage in serious negotiations aimed at finding a just conclusion to this dispute in a manner which benefits LUAS workers and the travelling public."

Further Luas Strike Action Announced
SIPTU Luas drivers have served notice of two further 48-hour work stoppages due to take place on 02 – 03 and 23 - 24 April. SIPTU said that the strike action was being taken over Transdev's refusal to engage in negotiations concerning their terms and conditions of employment.

Govt Urged To Facilitate Transdev And SIPTU Talks
The government has been urged to facilitate fresh talks between Transdev and SIPTU, in an effort to prevent further disruption over the St. Patrick's Day weekend. Making the call Sinn Féin Councillor, Nic Cormaic, said: "The Luas has become an integral asset for the city. Many of my own constituents rely on the Luas to get to work and to commute.
