SF Councillor Missing For Two Weeks Asks For Privacy

A Sinn Féin councillor missing since 18 March has thanked people for their concern and appealed for privacy so he can spend time with his family.

Stephen Cunningham, 23, went missing after a night out with friends two weeks ago in Cork City Centre.

Garda had launched an investigation into his disappearance and it is not clear when Mr Cunningham was found.

In a statement released on the Sinn Féin website, Mr Cunningham said: "Firstly, I would like to thank my family, friends, colleagues, and the wider public, for their expressions of support and concern.

"Over the last number of weeks, I have found myself feeling enormous pressure. It hasn't been easy.

"I am grateful for all those who have rallied around me.

"I am now spending time with my family. I need some space and I would sincerely appreciate that my need for privacy be respected.

"Again, my heartfelt thanks to everyone."
