Two Men Held In Connection With Post Office Robbery In Co Carlow

Two men have been arrested in connection with a post office robbery in Co Carlow.

The incident happened at Leighlinbridge Post Office yesterday, 01 March.

The suspects, one believed to be armed with a firearm and the other in possession of a hammer, entered the post office at around 10am on Tuesday morning.

After threatening and assaulting a member of staff, they left the premises with an amount of cash.

Both men were wearing balaclavas and fled the scene in a white coloured Honda.

Gardaí later received a report of a white car being set on fire near the Burrin Manor housing estate.

Two men were detained a short distance from the scene and an amount of cash was recovered.

Investigations are continuing and Gardai are appealing for witnesses.

A woman has been arrested in connection with an armed raid at a post office in Co Kerry. The suspect was arrested at around 5.30pm in Killarney on Thursday, 04 August. A sum of cash was stolen from Waterville Post Office at around 11am on Wednesday, 03 August. Two men were arrested in the area after the incident.

Donegal Post Office Robbery Investigated
Gardaí in Co Donegal have launched an investigation after a post office in Ramelton was robbed. It is understood that the robbery was carried out by three men, who escaped with an undisclosed sum of money. The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination.

Govt Accused of Undermining Post Office Network
The government has been accused of continuing to undermine the Post Office network across Ireland. Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Communications Michael Moynihan made the comments after the Department of Social Protection issued letters to jobseekers recommending that they bypass Post Offices by using financial institutions to receive their payments.
