Labour Pledges To 'Deliver A Job For Everyone'
The Labour Party has pledged to "deliver a job for everyone who wants one" by 2018.
Labour Leader Joan Burton, and Business and Employment Minister Ged Nash, launched 'Standing up for Jobs', in Drogheda today, 04 February.
The party plans to invest in people through the creation of 50,000 apprenticeships and traineeships and to further increase the minimum wage to a living wage of €11.30 per hour.
• Help companies access the funding they need to grow. Increase the scale of the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland’s lending to SMEs and protect the 12.5pc corporation tax rate.
• Increase the funding available for research and development to small companies, and scale up the 15 Technology Centres.
• Better supports for start-ups. Reduce the Capital Gains Tax entrepreneur relief to 15pc and increase its lifetime limit to €10m.
Tánaiste Joan Burton said: "Behind every job is a person or family benefitting from recovery in their own lives. Our plan will ensure a job for everyone who wants one by 2018, and 50,000 new apprenticeships and traineeships to give our young people choice in building great careers."

More than 660 motorists were caught breaking the speed limit across the Causeway Coast and Glens during the Easter bank holiday weekend – an increase of 22% from 2022. Chief Inspector Sinead McIldowney said: "The Safety Camera Vans were deployed at various locations across the North Coast and the increase in these detections is a worrying trend.

Labour Senator and Spokesperson on Labour Affairs and Workers Rights, Ged Nash, said that the government has failed to meet its own commitments to raise the minimum wage to €10.50.

SIPTU Joins Calls For 'Immediate End' Of Free Labour Schemes
So-called 'free labour schemes' must be scrapped, SIPTU has said. The union joined calls for schemes such as JobBridge to come to an "immediate end" following media reports that auditors in the Department of Social Protection found its monitoring system is unable to ensure its operation is not resulting in job displacement.
