Former Labour Leader Not Seeking Election Nomination

Former Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has announced he is not seeking a nomination as a candidate for the next General Election.

In a statement Mr Gilmore said: "It has been an honour to represent the people of Dun Laoghaire for the past 30 years and I am also informing members of the Labour Party, in my constituency of my decision.

I wish to thank the members of the Labour Party in Dun Laoghaire for their continued support and friendship, and the staff with whom I have worked for their loyalty and hard work.

"I also wish to acknowledge my Parliamentary colleagues in the Labour Party, and from across the political spectrum, for their work in the public interest.

"Above all, I wish to thank my wife Carol and our children Grainne, Oisin and Sean for their love and comfort through all the challenges of my public life. And I want to thank too our extended family, and our personal friends who were always there for us."

Labour Leader Nominations Open
Nominations have opened today to elect Eamon Gilmore's successor as leader of the Labour Party. The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs announced he would be standing down in July following the party's poor performance in the European and Local Elections, which precipitated two motions of no confidence over his leadership of Labour.

DUP Accuse Labour Of Playing 'Dangerous Games'
The DUP has accused the Labour Party of playing "dangerous games" if they appease Sinn Fein's divisive border poll plans. East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson said: "The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn became so absorbed into Sinn Féin's orbit that it's conference talked about "the north" rather than Northern Ireland. Little seems to have changed.

Labour Party 'Will Not Be Involved In The New Govt'
The Labour Party will not be involved in the formation of Ireland's next government, the party has announced in a statement. The statement reveals that members of the Parliamentary Labour Party agreed that the Party would not be involved in the formation of the next government, and that the Party would not be a member of the next government.
