Aldi Announces Minimum Wage Increase

Supermarket chain Aldi has announced that it will increase its minimum rate of pay to €11.50 per hour.

Announcing the new rate of pay, which will come into affect on 01 February, 2016, Aldi Ireland said the chain has enjoyed a significant sustained sales growth and store expansion.

The company has also announced plans to recruit more than 400 additional staff throughout 2016.

Retail Chain Recall Found Over Allergy Mislabelling
Retail chain Aldi has recalled its Fiesta Fajita Dinner Kit, due to missing information on the foods allergy advice label. It follows the discovery of low levels of almond protein in the seasoning mix, which is not listed on the label. Customers with an almond allergy or intolerance have been advised not to eat the product.

Bench Warrant Issued For Youth
Police are now looking for a youngster who failed to turn up in a Dublin court this week. A warrant has been issued by the Dublin Children’s Court for the arrest of the 14-year-old boy. The truanting north Dublin boy failed to turn up for a hearing, resulting in Judge Ann Ryan issuing a bench warrant for his arrest.

BoI Slammed For Keeping Standard Variable Rate At 4.5%
The Bank of Ireland (BoI) is being slammed for keeping its standard variable rate at 4.5%. The bank reduced its fixed mortgage rate, however it is refusing to cut its "ridiculous" variable rate and is instead effectively trying to force existing customers to lock in to a two year fixed rate, according to Fianna Fail.

SF Announces Secure Rents and Tenancies Bill 2016
Sinn Féin have announced the introduction of the Secure Rents and Tenancies Bill 2016, which seeks to amend the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 in order to provide for greater rent certainty and security of tenure for tenants in the private rented sector.
