Renewed Appeal Over 2008 Murder
Gardaí have issued a new appeal for information on the 7th anniversary of the murder of Gavin McCarthy, who was shot and killed on Sunday 19 October, 2008.
Mr McCarthy was standing outside a fast food outlet on Lower Sheriff Street at about 21:00 when he was approached by a man on a bicycle. The unknown male produced a handgun and shot Mr McCarthy in the face and upper body.
This man fled the scene, via Crinan Strand, through a lane running between the Sheriff Football Club and the artificial football pitch beside it, onto Commons Street, turning left in the direction of North Wall Quay and the IFSC.
Gavin was 21 at the time of his death.
Investigating Gardaí believe that people, living within the North Wall Community and in possession of specific information in relation to the murder, are in a position to progress enquires and are appealing directly to them to come forward.

Gardaí investigating the murder of Gareth Hutch on Tuesday have renewed an appeal for information on a car suspected of being connected to the crime. A silver Skoda, registration 05 D 15049, was seen on Sean McDermott Street around 10am on Tuesday, 24 May. It was later found burnt out in the Dudder Cross area of Finglas.

A man questioned over the murder of Deirdre McCarthy is expected to appear in court today to be charged in connection with her murder. Ms McCarthy, 43, from Turlough House, Ballyvaughan, was found dead on Fanore Strand last Thursday. She was last seen at her home on Sunday 27th March 2011 and failed to turn up for work the following morning.

A man has been held overnight for questioning at Ennis garda station in Co Clare in connection with the murder of Deirdre McCarthy. Ms McCarthy, 43, from Turlough House, Ballyvaughan, was found dead on Fanore Strand last Thursday. She was buried yesterday.
