Cigarettes And Tobacco Seized In Co Cork

Revenue officers have seized cigarettes and tobacco during a vehicle stop in Glanmire, Co Cork.

Officers found 20,000 unstamped 'Aroma' branded cigarettes and 15 kgs of unstamped 'Flandria' tobacco, with an estimated retail value of more than €15,000, on Saturday, 26 September.

Two males in their 50s, both from Northern Ireland, appeared at a sitting of Cork District Court on Sunday and were remanded in custody to appear at a further sitting of the court today, Monday 28.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes or tobacco, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.

The cigarettes and tobacco represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €12,000. This is assuming that they would have displaced the equivalent full tax paid quantity of cigarettes and tobacco.
