Seven Arrested Over Money Laundering Investigation

Seven people have been arrested in a series of raids in Cork city on Thursday morning.

Five women and two men, aged between 20 and 51, were detained by officers from the Divisional Fraud Investigation Unit, assisted by Divisional Drug Unit and CAB.

Gardaí said that the arrested were made as part of an ongoing operation into money laundering.

The seven suspects are due to appear at Cork District Court today (Thursday).

Customs Seize 120,000 Illegal Cigarettes
Cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €57,000 have been seized by customs officers at Cork Airport. Some 120,000 Marlboro cigarettes were discovered in 12 suitcases that had arrived on a flight from Wroclaw, Poland. Garda arrested two men, understood to be Polish nationals, in connection with the find.

Heroin with an estimated street value of €30,000 has been intercepted at Cork Airport. It was reported that the discovery was made when a man, said to be an Iranian in his 30s, become ill while on a flight from Amsterdam to Cork. The man is alleged to have swallowed fifteen capsules of the drug.

A teenager has been arrested in connection with a drugs find in Dublin on Wednesday. Gardaí say the find was a result of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the Lucan area.

Man Released In Injured Baby Case
A 30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault in Co Cork after a baby suffered serious head injuries, had been released without charge. Gardaí were contacted after the eight-month-old boy was admitted to Cork University Hospital last month. The man was arrested in Cork City on Thursday morning, but was released on Thursday night.

Seven Arrested In Connection With Armed Home Raid
Gardaí in Co Tipperary have arrested seven men in connection with armed raid on a family home. According to gardaí an armed gang broke into the Killenaule home of a businessman and his family at around 03:00 on Thursday morning. The man was in the house at the time along with his wife and three children, all understood to be aged under eight.
