Minister For Transport Makes Bus Driver Pledge

No Bus Éireann or Dublin Bus employee will be forced to transfer to private sector operators when 10% of the companies are put out to private tender, the Minister for Transport, Paschal Donohoe, has said.

The minister has held talks with the two transport companies ahead of seven days of strike action planned in May by SIPTU and National Bus and Rail Union members.

The members are concerned that privatisation will lead to a fall in pay and conditions.

However, Minister Donohoe pledged that due to projected growth in the industry, no current employee would be required to transfer to the private sector.

Unions have been urged to attend new talks at the Labour Relations Commission, at which the Minister's committee would be formalised.
