Vehicle Thefts By Men Posing As Garda Investigated

Gardaí are investigating vehicle thefts believed to have been carried out by men posing as garda officers.

According to reports a blue Nissan Qashqai was stolen at about 5am on Saturday morning near Ashbourne, Co Meath.

It is understood that the Qashqai was driving on the N2 to Navan when a saw a silver Vauxhall Vectra behind him turned on flashing blue lights, used by garda to instruct drivers to stop.

The man stopped his car and two men instructed him to get out of his car. He was told that he had been stopped for speeding. Under the pretence of searching the car, one of the men got into the drivers seat of the Qashqai and drove off, followed by the Vectra.

According to a report by Irish Independent, a similar incident occurred in Trim, Co Meath, when a man was pulled over by a car with blue flashing lifts. In that incident the driver was hit over the head before his Ford Transit was stolen.
