Major Gorse Fire Under Control In Co Roscommon

The fire service in Roscommon has appealed to farmers, landowners and members of the public not to burn vegetation on uncultivated ground following a major gorse fire outside Castlerea on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters spent several hours tackling the blaze, which was described as "raging". The main road to Cloonbonniffe was closed for a number of hours while fire crews brought the fire under control.

There were no injuries or damage to property.

Mountjoy Prison Cell Fire
A fire broke out in a cell at Dublin's Mountjoy Prison on Thursday night, according to reports. It is understood that a prisoner had set fire to a cell. However, it is believed that prison staff and fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly. No-one was injured in the incident.

Six Fire Crews Tackle Second Howth Hill Gorse Fire
Six Dublin Fire Brigade units tackled a gorse fire on Howth Hill on Monday night. The emergency services were called to the scene at around 22:00 last night. It is the second gorse fire in the area in a week. The first fire is believed to have been started deliberately, but the cause of last nights blaze is unknown.
