3,850 Canadian Working Permits Go In 12 Minutes

The first round of permits in this year's International Experience Canada were filled in just 12 minutes.

The initiative allows Irish citizens the opportunity to take a working holiday in Canada. The first 3,850 permits were made available at 19:00 on Tuesday night. All applications were filled by 19:12.

Those who signed up now have two weeks to provide the required documentation, which includes a garda clearance certificate.

Another round of permits will be made available online on Thursday.

Waterford City Balcony Body Named
The body of a man found on the balcony of an apartment in Waterford city has been named as Damian Richards. Richards (42), a hairdresser and "well-known local character", was found slumped over the balcony of his apartment at Nore House, Canada Square, just before 9am on Tuesday morning, according to the Irish Independent.

Gardaí from the National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) have arrested 10 people as part of an ongoing operation targeting illegal immigration and work permits. New 'Chuggers' Legislation Welcomed
New legislation requiring "chuggers" – on street charity collectors – to carry a permit has been welcomed by Fine Gael Senator, Jim D'Arcy. "This is already the case with charities and other groups such as GAA clubs who have collections throughout our towns and villages.
