Minister For Justice Sends Petition Opposing Marriage Equality Referendum
A petition opposing the marriage equality referendum has been singed by the Galway branch of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, the Irish Council of Imams and a number of individuals has been sent to the Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald.
Author of the petition Richard Kimble told RTÉ Morning Ireland that it had been raised in opposition to the proposed amendment "because it does not facilitate people, who for reasons of conscience, wish to define marriage in the traditional sense".
When asked by RTÉ about the petition, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: "The Government has made its decision very clear here in respect to the question that the people will be asked on the 22nd of May. That question of course is to give their approval, if they see fit and I hope they do, to allow for marriage in civil law irrespective of sexual orientation."

Marriage Referendum Results Welcomed
Sinn Féin said the result of the marriage referendum represents the lifting of discrimination against the gay community in the rest of the island of Ireland. Daithí McKay MLA is also calling for the same rights to be extended to Northern Ireland.

More Couples Seeking Marriage Counselling
A record number of couples are seeking marriage counselling services, the Catholic marriage care service, Accord, has revealed. The service revealed that 43,627 hours of counselling were provided to 6.145 couples last year and said that there was an 8% increase in demand for couples seeking their services.

Former Politician Arrested Over Alleged Murder Conspiracy
A former Co Cork politician has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. It is understood garda detectives were acting on information when they arrested the as-yet-unidentified man near Cork city on Friday morning. He is being held and questioned at a garda station in Cork and can be detained for up to a week.
