Man Killed In Co Louth Road Accident

Gardaí in Co Louth have confirmed the death of a man in a road traffic accident on the M1 on Thursday afternoon.

The man, said to be aged in his 40s, died when a lorry hit a van that was parked on the hard shoulder of the southbound motorway near Monasterboice, north of Drogheda at about 12:45.

A section of the road is expected to remain closed to allow for a forensic examination of the scene. Diversions are in place.

Garda are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041-9874200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666111 or any garda station.

Garda Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Road Accident

Man Questioned Over Fatal Road Crash In Co Mayo
Garda have detained a man in connection with a fatal road crash in Co Mayo on Sunday, 08 May. A 41-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his bike collided with a van on the N26 at Ballinahaglush at around 3.45pm. A man was arrested and is being detained at Ballina Garda Station.

Firefighters Hose Down Sword Attacker
A man has been arrested after reportedly attempting to attack firefighters with a sword in Dundalk, Co. Louth. It is understood that the attack happened in Marion Road as firefighters attempted to put out a fire in a car around 1.50am on Friday.

Two people have been arrested and a firearm has been seized following a Gardai operation targeting dissident republican activity in the Drogheda area. On 11 July, Garda stopped and searched a car at around 3pm in the Crushrod Avenue area.

Teen Arrested Following Firearm Seizure
A 19-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí following the seizure of a firearm in Tallaght, Dublin. He was arrested on the Jobstown Road at approximately 12.40am on Tuesday morning. Gardaí were alerted after a man was seen holding a weapon. The male was chased on foot and gardaí disarmed and arrested him.
