Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Council Hears Public Baths Redevelopment Plan
Details of a proposed redevelopment of Dún Laoghaire’s public baths have been revealed in a presentation to the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council
Constructed in 1843, the baths were completely redeveloped by then Kingstown Town Council in 1910 and operated until 1997 when they were closed. The site has remained derelict since and has been the subject of various redevelopment proposals.
The latest proposal from council officials would retain the existing structure but include a new pedestrian connection between the promenade at Newtownsmith and the back of the East Pier. Proposed new amenities include a small café, art gallery, improved maritime gardens and a new jetty for access to the sea for kayaks, canoes and small craft.
Welcoming the proposal to put the plans out to public consultation, Councillor Cormac Devlin, Chairperson of the Dún Laoghaire Area Committee of the Council said: "The new proposals are in keeping with the low rise built environment surrounding the site. The plans will also ensure the site remains in public ownership, provide additional amenities on the seafront while also linking the promenade at Newtownsmith to the East Pier.
"The council will shortly begin a statutory public consultation process. I would encourage all residents of the county to engage with the process and make their views heard. Following the consultation process the final plans will be put to the council for consideration."

The Public Health Agency (PHA) has announced that it has been made aware of a third confirmed case of measles in the Republic of Ireland. It is understood that the case was confirmed in a resident of Ireland who had arrived back in the country from Abu Dhabi on Saturday 9 March 2024.
