16 In Court Over False Car Crash Injury Claims

Sixteen people are due to appear in a Cork court today, following an investigation into suspected organised fraudulent motor insurance injury claims.

It is understood those charged – 10 males and six females – staged fake car crashed in order to make false insurance claims. The accused range in age from 22 to 60, and were arrested and questioned over the last two years by gardaí as part of Operation Nascar – an investigation into car crashes that occurred around Cork city and county.

Operation Nascar was launched in 2011 following concerns over staged road traffic accidents.
