Thousands Protest Over Water Charge Protesters Detention

Thousands took to the streets in Dublin on Saturday in a protest over jail sentences given to four anti-water charge protesters.

Two protesters were jailed for 28-days and two others for 56-days for contempt of court.

It has been estimated that more than 5,000 people gathered at the Central Bank in Dame Street at 14:00 on Saturday, before making their way to Mountjoy Prison, where the jailed protesters are being held.

A number of people addressed the gathered crowd, with Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan describing the detention of the protesters as "outrageous".
