Airtricity Announce Domestic Bill Cuts

The Minister for Energy, Alex White, has welcomed an announcement by energy supplier Airtricity that it will reduce its domestic energy prices by by 6%.

The price reduction will see gas bills reduced by 4% and electricity by 2% and follows a similar announcement by Bord Gais Energy last week.

Welcoming the news, Minister White said: "I welcome the Airtricity price cuts, just as I welcomed last week’s decision by Bord Gais Energy. I began a series of meetings with all the domestic energy suppliers today and I hope to see others take similar decisions to reduce domestic energy prices."

Irish Carbon Emissions Almost 60% Above EU Average - Report
A new report has revealed that carbon emissions in Ireland are among the highest in Europe, with Ireland beating the European average by 58%. According to the report, published by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the increase is due to the greater use of high-carbon fuels including oil, coal and peat.

Better Energy Homes Scheme Grants Increased
Grants awarded under the Better Energy Homes Scheme are to be increased. The value of every grant is to be increased by between 25-50%, with an additional bonus payment also being introduced for recipients who complete three or more energy efficiency improvements.
