Renewed Appeal For Information On 2003 Murder

Gardai have renewed an appeal for information about the 2003 murder of Niall Mulvihill.

Mr Mulvihill was fatally wounded in a shooting at Spencer Dock Bridge, Dublin 1, around 21:30 on 23 January, 2003. He died later that night in hospital.

Garda said that on the night of the shooting, Mr Mulvihill was driving his red estate Mercedes Taxi from Upper Sheriff Street towards Seville Place. While stopped at Spencer Dock Bridge a dark coloured car is believed to have pulled to up alongside him. A passenger in the second car, got out of the vehicle, walked up to Mr Mulvihill's car and fired a number of shots from a handgun at close range.

Mr Mulvihill managed to drive away from the scene of the shooting, crossing three major junctions before crashing into a number of vehicles at the junction of North Circular Road / Dorset Street junction.

Niall Mulvihill was removed by Dublin Fire Brigade to the Mater Hospital where he later pronounced dead.

Gardaí at Store Street believe there are people who have information which would assist them in this investigation.

They are appealing for them to contact the incident room at Store St Garda station on 01 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
