Four Women Killed In Co Kildare Road Collision Named

Four young women who were killed in a road crash in Co Kildare on Tuesday night have been named.

Ashling Middleton, 19, Niamh Doyle, 19, Gemma Nolan, 19 and Chermaine Carroll, 20, all died in the collision.

The driver of the car, who is also 20, is currently being treated in Tallaght Hospital. She is suffering from serious injuries.

Ms Middleton was a student at Maynooth University.

In a statement the university said: "We are deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the death of Ashling Middleton, a second-year student of English and Anthropology at Maynooth University, in the tragic road accident last evening, 6 January 2015, which claimed four lives.

"Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the four young women so suddenly and sadly taken from us. We are mindful also of the three people injured in the accident who remain in hospital, and we hope for their full recovery."

Two men who were travelling in the van were also injured. They are being treated at Naas General Hospital.

Gardai are appealing to witnesses to contact them.

Man Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter
A Dublin man has admitted killing an English motorist who died in a road rage incident in Sandymount. Karl Donohoe, 30, pleaded guilty today to the manslaughter of Raymond Bates in September 2010. Mr Bates, 49, who was working for a construction firm at the time, was beaten with a hurley stick after an argument with another motorist.

Man Attacked In Dublin
A man is being treated in hospital after being stabbed in Dublin on Sunday night. The 29-year-old man was taken to the Beaumount Hospital following the attack which happened on Glin Road, Coolock. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Gardai are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Man Assaulted By Gang In Drogheda
An investigation has been launched following an assault in Drogheda, Co Louth. Gardaí have issued an appeal for information after a man in his late 20s was assaulted by four men in Moneymore in an incident at about 10.30pm last night, Monday 29 April.

Cork Crashes Kills Four
Four people have died in two separate car crashes in County Cork. Two died following a collision between a van and a 4x4 on the Mitchelstown relief road just after 2pm this afternoon. Earlier a three-car accident has left two dead in the County this morning.
