600,000 Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Port

Approximately 600,000 cigarettes have been seized at Dublin Port.

The cigarettes, seized by Revenue officers, are believed to have a retail price of around €304,000.

The cigarettes were found when officers searched a large wooden crate which, according to documents, contained safety footwear.

Investigations are continuing and a file is being referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Customs officers at Dublin Port discovered eight million smuggled cigarettes, stored in boxes labelled “garlic and cheese tear and share”. The find was made by officers using a mobile scanner during a routine check of a refrigerated unit that had arrived at the port from Rotterdam.

Revenue's Customs Service have seized 900,000 cigarettes at Dublin Port as a result of routine profiling. On Wednesday, 12 October, the cigarettes were detected, with the help of detector dog Casey, in five pallets which were marked as 'catering equipment' and had arrived into Dublin from the Netherlands.

Revenue officers have seized just over one million smuggled cigarettes in Dublin Port. The unstamped cigarettes were discovered with the assistance of revenue detector dogs and a mobile x-ray scanner when officers conducted an examination of freight which arrived from Rotterdam.
