Sinn Féin Accused Of Holding Up House Building
Dublin City's Sinn Féin Councillors have been accused of "dithering" and putting home building at risk.
Fianna Fáil Councillor David Costello criticised the party, which is the controlling group on the council, claiming that they have an "inability" to make decisions in relation to the housing crisis.
It is understood that the Sinn Féin group has introduced a number of amendments to a proposal brought to the council by the housing manager, that sought expressions of interest to build public housing on vacant sites around the City.
Councillor Costello, who represents the Cabra Finglas Area, said: "Five months ago, Sinn Féin pushed a proposal by Dublin City Council, which sought expressions of interests to develop public housing on a number of vacant sites around the city, to the council's housing committee. At the time I was outraged that Sinn Féin was delaying a process that offered homeless people somewhere to live.
"This process was supposed to bring ideas to the table in relation to solving our housing crisis in the city but five months on and the issue has returned to the council from the housing committee.
"Sinn Féin members would not make a commitment one way or the other, instead, at the last minute Sinn Féin proposed a number of amendments that sought to restrict the process. In other words, they tried to kill the proposal with unworkable and ill-thought out amendments.
"The Fianna Fáil group is in the business of looking for solutions. During this week's meeting I expressed my outrage and frustration at the Sinn Féin proposals. I believe that every citizen has a right to a home. I also believe that through their actions, Sinn Féin sought to stall this process which could potentially give people a home. It's time that Sinn Féin stopped dithering, got off the fence and start making tough choices. The people of Dublin need workable solutions."

Sinn Féin's opposition to a proposal to build 50 new social housing units in Clondalkin has been described as an "absolutely disgrace and almost beyond belief". Labour TD Robert Dowds accused Cllr Eoin Ó Broin of "complete political cowardice", and that it was people on the housing waiting list that would suffer as a result.

Galway City Council Reject Local Property Tax Reduction Proposal
Galway City Council has rejected a Sinn Féin proposal to reduce the Local Property Tax next year. The council discussed a Sinn Féin proposal to reduce the tax by 15% in 2015, however, following the debate, the council voted against the move. Ten councillors voted against, seven in favour and one abstained.
